video problem

I googled for this yesterday and found that this is a fairly common
problem. It appears to be related to Intel and NVidia graphics chips.
Some say that it is related to "screen effects" such as Compiz. It's
probably not related to the age of the system. I see this myself on a
fairly new laptop with ATI graphics. It's most visible in vlc, but I see
it with others too. mplayer seems to do the best job at the moment.
People have also indicated that sounds is affected as well and in fact I
noticed that sounds played through aplay is bad. Flash (through Youtube
works fine for me.

Note that for me (and others) there were no problems with 10.04. This is
new behavior for 10.10.

I hope this helps. We should probably all subscribe to the launchpad bug
for this. Unfortunately I don't have the bug number available at the
moment.
