Cancelled 10.10 midway uh oh

I was attempting to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10. I had to leave and I shut down midway (about 50% of the way I think it had 50 minutes left) 

Unfortunately in returning it hangs on the ubuntu screen. I think Grub 2 might not be loading properly 

I made a USB stick with and ISO of the file but it doesn't seem to recognize it if I try to boot from it (this was the way 10.04 was installed...there's no dvd rom) 

I think maybe I would have to simply wipe the hard drive and just install 10.10 but I'm not sure how to do that given the system isn't booting.
