Are you using an nVidia card with the nVidia proprietary driver
(installed using the hardware drivers tool) or perhaps the driver from
nvidia.com?

Only if a bug is filed and sufficient people experience the issue, and
the developers are able to.

Does the machine actually shutdown okay or does it hang?
