TalkTalk + Huawei HG521 + Ubuntu 10.04.01 i386 + misery, ANY IDEAS?

the problem remains unresolved.

I checked just now that this USB socket does function from Windows

which it does. Windows gives an error message about duplicate names

on the network as the laptop is also connected to the network.

But Firefox on Windows connects to the internet fine.

Maybe I will retry with the laptop disconnected.
