freenode (proper capitalization) does not require SASL for normal 
connections. It is only required to connect with tor. There is a spammer 
going around saying it will be required for everybody, which is false.

To use xchat with SASL only takes a small python script, which you can 
get from http://freenode.net/sasl/ or http://sleepyirc.net/wiki/SASL#X-Chat

IMO there is no need to add a 6.1K script to the package to benefit the 
extremely small subset of tor/freenode users, most of whom should be 
about to read the documentation at http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml#tor
