Another synaptic issue

Thanks. My problem was really with Synaptic, showing the package to be
installed (as did the U Soft Center) on the main display, but telling me
that it couldn't list the files - as Synaptic claimed it wasn't installed
when I looked at 'properties'.

I'll probably uninstall it, but that won't explain the Synaptic peculiarity.
