Thunderbird/Ubu 10.04LTS

I'm running Ubuntu LTS on my laptop and setup Thunderbird for my office
exchange account. It seems to initialize and sync with the mail folders but
after viewing one or two messages it borks with
"Lost connection to Evolution Exchange backend process". I know this has
been a historical problem with Evo but can't seem to find any current
work-arounds for this. Any guidance along these lines is greatly
appreciated.
