Lucid - Blank screen at boot end

Hi!
Got problems with a blank screen at the end of the boot (login screen); 
no problems with video before this point. Upon deleting "quiet splash" 
from Grub, problem was solved. Is there a way to make that modification 
permanent?
MB Asus M4A785TD-M EVO, 4Gb RAM, video onboard Radeon HD 4200 using 
sideport, driver Catalyst installed from "Hardware Drivers" and system 
fully updated.
