As Ric said, it is unlikely that IPV6 is causing these issues. Given
that ipv6 will start getting enforced in the next couple of months
because of ipv4 addresses running out very shortly, it is actually
advisable to keep it enabled so that you don't miss out on the action to
come. :)

It seems more likely that you are having DNS related issues in your
setup. 

sshd requires reverse dns of incoming addresses, so try out
disabling this at first, by adding the line "UseDNS no" in
/etc/ssh/sshd_config and restarting sshd.

Examine /etc/resolv.conf. Do they have the correct DNS servers for your
network? Can you successfully ping the DNS servers?
