Likewise. It was the last newsreader I used when I stopped reading
usenet. It is/was great for getting through large volumes of postings,
most of which you dont want to read (such as the recent issues here :-)

I'm using it under Debian. It's version is 6.7.3-2.1, dated 08 Mar 2008,
so I expect that is what you should find in Ubuntu. I've got a couple of
my own patches on top of that version, but it should work. One problem I
had was nn wanting to find a domain name in /etc/resolv.conf and it
wouldn't start if it wasn't there. I added a "domain-name" option to
override that.
I'm not sure if there are any public news servers you can use to read
this and other mailing lists. I run a local news server (sn) that I feed
my mailing list subscriptions to.
