Yes, there is.. at installation of ubuntu, under manual partitioning, at 
"advanced' button (careful, not very noticable), set where you want to 
set grub to fd0 (default is sda), *but* before you do this....

o format the floppy to ext2
o at installation make sure the floppy is inserted
o set your bios to boot from floppy first

There will be a 'terrifying warning message' to warn you not to do this.

ps: Steven, you are progressing very well. Are you sure you really want 
to do this? You can still get this done after you do the 'normal' 
installation; you must know though, how to set back your windows mbr, 
something like fixmbr, easybcd or whatever. I don't know how to set back 
windows mbr anymore but I can show you how to reset the grub to boot 
from floppy/usb/cdrom instead of hard disk.
