It isn't too dangerous to add the Maverick repo if you are careful what 
you do. Use "sudo apt-get update" but DON'T use "apt-get upgrade". 
Instead use "sudo apt-get install linux-generic linux-headers-generic" 
to install only the kernel and kernel headers from Maverick. After that, 
remove the maverick repo from your sources.list and do a "sudo apt-get 
update" again. Please note: While I have done this with previous Kubuntu 
versions, I didn't try it with this particular combination of a 9.10 
system with a 10.10 kernel.
