OK, I'm looking at this RAID stuff myself now, and am wondering what I
should do.
I'll revive an old thread instead of starting a new one.
My scenario is that I'm finally about to redo my home file server -
I've been running FreeBSD on it for years now. I ordered some new
hardware, and when it comes in I'll be installing Linux and starting
to migrate. I'm getting 4 x 1.5TB HDs and want to make a RAID10 out
of them. Originally I'd been considering CentOS since that is what I
know best. I use it at work and it was really easy to set up a RAID10
like this with the installer in 5.4. But I've been very happy with
Ubuntu desktop at home for the last 6 or 8 months, and was thinking of
running Ubuntu server on my new machine.
But the more I'm reading, the more worried I am. I just need this to
work. Period. That's why I like CentOS. Ubuntu seems to be more
the foreskin of technology (:-)) and maybe not the smartest choice for
my home file server which basically just needs to be reliable (and
also run MySQL and Apache2 - neither of which require the latest and
greatest versions)
I really want to dig more deeply into Ubuntu - mainly for the sake of
having it on my resume. But if it would be even just slightly less
reliable than CentOS in this regard then it is a no-brainer for me -
go with CentOS
thoughts?
