Goodbye Linux/Ubuntu

Tried Deluge, QTorrent, same thing. Returning to 9.10 is do-able... I store files in a different partition. It just seems to feel like diminishing returns here. I no longer know what is to be gained from Linux.

If 10.04 isn't working and 9.10 worked, you could return to 9.10.
Granted, that isn't easy because it is more or less a fresh install. Or
you could first try one of the other bittorrent clients available for
Ubuntu. After all you are not forced to use one particular application
because there are many bittorrent clients available. Search for
"torrent" with your favourite package manager and try each of the
programs you find. Personally, I can recommend ktorrent because I know
it works - I used it to download Ubuntu isos when 10.04 was just
released.
