installation files

I tried to load the installation abuntu files from the cd that came on "The Official Ubuntu Book", and I get an error window that says it can not open the installation flies. I also went to the UBUNTU site and download the operating system, and I also get a window that says "Windows cannot open this file", then it tells me to either "use the web to find the appropiate program, or to select a program from a list on my computer".

Has anybody have an idea of what I need to do?
