how to grab dv video from a camera to a lucid machine?

Hello.
I used to use dvgrab to grab raw dv video from a camcorder to my ubuntu
machine. I have upgraded to Lucid a few weeks ago and and tried to grab
a video from the same camcorder after quite a while. It doesn't work,
however.
If I connect the camcorder via the USB port in VCR mode, I used to start
the dvgrab, which used to capture the video to a dv file. The command I
used was something like this:
$> sudo dvgrab -a -f raw -t -input /dev/dv movie-
"sudo" was used because apparently the /dev/ieee1394 or /dev/video
device is not root:video anymore, it is root:root since some kernel version.
I have tried this with and without the ieee1394 and raw1394 modules
loaded. The command just says "waiting for dv ..." and does not capture
any frames at all.
So, how do I grab the video in Lucid now? What am I missing? I cannot
even use Kino to grab the video since it doesn't see any firewire input
device. I would prefer to use dvgrab.
Running Lucid with 2.6.32-22-generic kernel.
Thanks in advance.
