Glad that works. As for the broken panel on install, I'd start here:
<https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bugs?field.searchtext=lucid&orderby=-importance&search=Search&field.status%3Alist=NEW&field.status%3Alist=INCOMPLETE_WITH_RESPONSE&field.status%3Alist=INCOMPLETE_WITHOUT_RESPONSE&field.status%3Alist=CONFIRMED&field.status%3Alist=TRIAGED&field.status%3Alist=INPROGRESS&field.status%3Alist=FIXCOMMITTED&field.assignee=&field.bug_reporter=&field.omit_dupes=on&field.has_patch=&field.has_no_package=>
and I see that you've already been there:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/581046
in looking at your
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/48507150/Dependencies.txt
I see gnome-panel-data but do not see 'gnome-panel'. I wonder if that
might be part of the cause as generally they are installed together.
Any way that you can get to your ~/.xsession-errors file on a borked
install? That may have some clues.
