Let me state one thing very clear.
You are not stupid!
It really annoys me when people say that they are stupid and at the same
time prove that they are not.
You have proven that you are capable of searching on the web. The fact
that none of it solved your problem, is not because of you.
You seem to have done all the relevant troubleshooting: dmesg, lsusb,
fdisk,...
You have described what you have done that may have caused the problem.
Most people just shout "help computer cannot see flashdrive" and nothing
more.
The only incredibly stupid thing that you have done, is the subject of
your mail. It should have been something like "Flashdrive no longer
appears (Xubuntu 9.04/PPC Powerbook G4)". I fixed that for you.
I will take a look at your debugging and send you an answer later.
