Guiness it is & I'll toast you with a Glenlivet :-)

Can't get the internal mic to work on lucid. Same machine w/karmic I get
both sound from headphones & speakers. Even purged the alsa-dev ppa bits
that I'd installed (what a PITA that is; you need to force a package
downgrade to the previous/stable versions - so sorry for recommending
you try them previously).

So for now if I want to use internal mic w/guvcview I boot into karmic &
to listen w/headphones I boot into lucid. I'd upgrade the karmic partion
to lucid, but that wouldn't help troubleshoot the problem.
