What is really annoying is not being able to plug in a jack and have
sound through your external speakers. It makes me think that the issue
is not coming from Alsa but more from Ubuntu 10.04. I had sound through
my external speaker with Ubuntu 9.10 and never actually froze. Now, I
did intermittently freeze with Alsa 1.0.23 and do not get sound with my
external speakers under Ubuntu 10.0.4. I downgraded to Alsa 1.0.22 and
now the freeze is gone but the internal Jack is broke. I really think
Ubuntu 10.0.4 is not agreeing with Alsa or simply handling things
differently with my sound card.
