Because it was suggested as a fix for his sound problem in this thread even.
Pulse-audio is known much more for its troubles than its benefits!

I believe how they removed pulse-audio was with the Synaptic Package Manager
rather than CLI. One of the reasons I never wanted Ubuntu on my Kubuntu
machines was exactly because it imported pulse-audio with it! However,
Synaptic Package Manager is a VERY nice application and worth the bit of
hassle it takes to clean out the more troublesome Ubuntu apps.
