Strange Video Problems HP Pavilion Laptop dv7-3165dx

I have a Strange Video Problems HP Pavilion Laptop dv7-3165dx
The laptop screen will all of a sudden show nothing but Ubuntu Dark 
Brown, Light Brown
vertical bars.. The only fix is a hard re-boot
I assume it must be a video driver ???
This laptop uses a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Graphics chip/card
according to the sticker...

Ideas ????

PS I got the camera and speakers working... No mic though....
