Hello all
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 on 25 Pentium 4 PC's Brand IBM and model
ThinkCentre (8187B5G) and NetVista (6929-V8G) and have fund serious problem
during installation where it several time happened, after a successful
installation with complete update, that the installation was no longer
bootable but gave following error message:
Error: no such device: C548158d-5a2a-4ad=-bd2b-d06010f1be43
Failed to boot default entries
which to my knowledge is the hard disk "missing".
Sometime a recovery menu appears:
Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic
Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic (recovery mode)
And two more line with a different version
But no luck trying recovery
However I found out that several of those PC's surviving installation failed
after being without power for a day or two, mainly because the backup
battery was low on voltage (2.8V or lover) and the boot order I did chose
before installation HD, CD, Floppy, had changed to Default Floppy, HD, CD.
I tried to change the boot order to default (Floppy, HD, CD) on one of those
with OK backup battery and it also failed to start as described above and
even if I changed the boot order back again to HD, CD, Floppy, the
installation was corrupted.
Ubuntu 9.10 fails nonrecoverable if you change boot order !!!!
I have now installed Ubuntu 9.04 on all 25 PC's (what a job) which is rock
solid !!!
I thought some needed to know
Kind regards
