Nothing......that's what is in part frustrating. The system tells me the 
module is installed and active, and to reboot. When the system come back 
up, I have to make choice to use nVidia in low res, or do a diff. 
config. I choose the low res nVidia option, yet as follows, there's NO 
nVidia module loaded!

Thanks, I edited the xorg.conf fie before I made the module active. 
There wasn't one in /etc/X11/ only a *.failsafe file plus some backups. 
I simply copied the failsafe file, cleaned it, then put your lines in 
it. I just checked and the file is still there and is "untouched".
