There is a workaround in the bug description
Workaround:
1. Run sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow libpam-runtime
2. Deselect "Winbind NT/Active Directory authentication"
3. Select OK

Having tried it I can confirm that it fixes the inability to login
with new users problem.  I will add this to the bug report.
