Well, what I'm going to end up doing is going with evoice.com for a free 
six month period just for the voicemail, but using skype-out.  I'd like 
to go with diamondcard, they look ok on Linux and offer voicemail in 
canada, at least as far as I can tell:

However, they don't offer any kind of trial, and since ekiga tests poorly 
as compared to skype (for whatever reason) I'd probably still need skype 
for calls.

If anyone knows any other voicemail or inbound DID numbers in Canada, pls 
do let me know!
