I installed Ubuntu 9.10 to replace windows XP, my hard drive crashed

     You still have the Grub info on the front of your hard drive. If 
you have a windows cd-rom you can fix the problem. Another way is to 
re-install 9.10 Ubuntu and then it will pick up your windows and boot it.

This last might be easiest.
