Is it not true that all virus scanners will only detect viruses that
are in their database, or match some heuristic patterns, and that
currently these only look for Windows viruses as that is all that is
known in the wild?  In this case a virus scanner on Linux may
certainly detect viruses but they will be Windows viruses (or false
positives) and will therefore not harm Linux.  Of course detecting
them should stop you emailing them on to a Win user.
