Resume problem following desktop upgrade to Karmic

I am not exactly an early adopter. I have just upgraded my desktop to
Karmic.

Everything seems to work, except resume screen blanking. This is a
desktop so it is not set to suspend or hibernate. I had the screensaver
set to come on after five minutes and the screen to blank after 30.

Here is the problem: After the display powers down, it will not power
up. No mouse gestures or key presses do anything. (Under jaunty, mouse
movement did not work, but the scroll wheel did.) The machine is alive,
because I can ssh into it from my laptop, but nothing I could do but
issue a "shutdown -r now".

For the time being, I have turned off the screen blanking under power
management. The screen saver does not seem to be the problem.

Anyone know what's up with this? Googling lead me to a web page that
suggested this interim fix, but no further.
