Trouble in accessing `/home/USERNAME/.Xauthority'

About the file, I don't know what is it for. But I think(by reading
the Ubuntu help) it's something related to cookies.
About the firewall:
I was using Firestarter but after visiting
http://linuxappfinder.com/security/firewalls I found
linux-firewall.org in top of rating.
Actually I'm so confused in finding a good, simple and easy to use
firewall for Linux.
In windows, I'm using Bitdefender security suite and it automatically
asks about permission for programs that want to connect to Internet.
It's simple but also professional.
But which firewall is the best for Linux having all these features together?
