Compiling Question

Today I came across the problem of not being able to install a 32bit deb
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpn/files/opencpn/1.3.6/opencpn_1.3.6_i386.deb/download)
on my 64bit laptop. The issue is/was OpenCPN:

http://opencpn.sourceforge.net/
So, I bit the bullet and decided to compile from svn using these
instructions (sorry for the long url, but the site is having issues so I
use the google cache link):
<http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:LX8BLLl92CIJ:www.opencpn.com/compiling_in_ubuntu+help.ubuntu+%2Bopencpn&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us>
Followed all the instructions and used:
<quote>
OR you could do this to make and install your own .deb
sudo checkinstall -D make install
</quote>
Make went well, install went well (it's working just fine on the
laptop), but for the life of me I can't find the .deb that this
instruction was supposed to create. What did I miss?
