Ah, well, after reading the link above(oops), you have to set your location to
asia, as per:

http://picobit.wordpress.com/2009/04/10/yahoo-mail-free-pop-access/

and you get free pop3, which is the actual solution.  However, who knows when
that'll be revoked?
