I think the design team lead needs to be assigned to another function...

Benjamin Humphrey, Ubuntu Manual Team leader, has, what I consider to be
"sane & sound" comments regarding this & other design "improvements":

And again, keeping in mind that 10.04 is an LTS release, I think it
insane that out of the blue they've decided to launch this change a few
