What is the "main" component ?

Hello,

What is the main component in the following message that I get from Ubuntu
9.10

@crash-06:~/Project736/e2fsprogs-1.41.10/doc$ latex texinfo.tex
The program 'latex' is currently not installed.  You can install it by
typing:
sudo apt-get install texlive-latex-base
You will have to enable the component called 'main'
latex: command not found
