I must admit that I didn't try it, only found it.  I did, however,
switch back to Metacity (which lately has the buttons on the left) and
ran that command which worked for you. 

Lo and behold, it worked for me!  Quite a nice treat watching the
buttons go back where they belong.

Now back to Compiz!!
