I have the alternative cd but haven't used it yet because I was trying a
scenario I found by googling. I put 256mb of freespace at the front and
then setup partitions for ubuntu and swap. This got me past my
partitioner hangs. The install now goes to 95% then aborts with the
message "Executing "grub-install (hd0,0)" failed.
I was in this exact spot early last week. I burnt two different
Supergrub cd's trying to fix it but could not do so. I'd appreciate any
ideas to get grub installed.
If that doesn't work out I will try the alternative cd. It looks like
it gives you more control. I'm using it right now to install Ubuntu on a
low memory Thinkpad that failed using the regular LiveCD.
Thanks, Jim
