Did your friend use tethering? In other words did he use the mobile 
phone as a modem for the desktop, via bluetooth?

Marketing BS is totally irrelevant.
Mobile internet is usually several times more expensive than broadband.

Unless you want to steal other peoples wireless internet. Then you are 
doing something illegal and I refuse to help you.
