Marking bad sectors

Since it seems no one has mentioned it yet, it should be pointed out 
that bad blocks should be handled by the drive firmware transparently, 
in the background, and unnoticed to you. If a block is seen as bad at 
the OS level, the drive has already failed way beyond tolerance.

Trying to mark sectors bad yourself is just borrowing trouble.. 
especially in the case of SSD, which should have wear levelling 
algorithm  which changes which physical space on the drive gets written 
as the drive is used.
