Ctrl+Alt+Backspace for newbies.

My issue, like all UNIX/Linux, Ubuntu is a multi-user environment..
CTRL+ALT+DEL initiates a process that has system wide effects.....
CTRL+ALT+Backspace affects the locally logged on user..
There have been a number of times where I've lost my X, but don't want
the machine booting..
again - another penny's worth.
