Note: you'll need internet access to view/read these:

[SiS 771/671 Mirage 3 Video Drivers!?!?]

[[needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards]

[package xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.10.1-2 failed to install/upgrade:]

That last one indicates that the sis drivers may mail on some upgrades.
You might try all of the following in order:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install -f
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-sis
xserver-xorg-video-sisusb

that will load sis_drv.so and sisusb_drv.so. Try those instead. Change
your xorg to:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
    VendorName "Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]"
    BoardName "SiS SiS 670 / 671-based cards"
    Driver "sis"
    Option "DPMS"

(Note: I've not tried as I do not have the chipset)

Or, optionally, rename your xorg.conf to xorg.conf_karmic then reboot &
let lucid configure the video without the xorg.conf.
