places: / vs. File System Resolved

Thanks to all who replied.  You got me to thinking clearly again.  I 
could kick myself for not noticing the file creation dates.  The  "/" 
entry in "Places" was the partition label of another partition, actually 
Ubuntu 5.10.  I have no idea why I gave it a label of "/".
Without a label, partitions apparently default to something like "8.2 GB 
Filesystem".  Using System>Disk Utility I overrode the default names to 
such as "Ubuntu 8.04", etc.
That utility would not let me change the labels of the active 
partitions.  Is there another way to change labels of active 
partitions?  Thanks again.
