I suspect that you may have one or more symbolic links broken.
flashplugin-nonfree is only a transitional package. Please try this instead:

$ sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree flashplugin-installer
$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

Restart firefox & in the URL bar enter:
about:config
in the Filter enter: path
double-click: plugin.expose_full_path
so the setting value turns to 'true'
Now again in the url bar enter:
about:plugins
You _should_ see a plugin for:
 Shockwave Flash
 File: /var/lib/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so

If you do not, please provide the output of the following:

$ locate -L libflashplayer.so
$ dpkg-query -L flashplayer-installer

And *please* bottom post on this list; meaning to play your response
below mine. Thanks :-)
