[OT] learn basic kernel programming on your ubuntu 10.04 system!!

  yes, it's wildly off-topic but if you've ever wanted to get your
feet wet and do some basic kernel programming, i'm giving you the
chance:

  and what does this have to do with ubuntu, you ask?  obviously, you
should be able to do the same kernel programming on any decent and
modern distro but since i'll have numerous labs throughout the course,
i wanted to pick a specific distro so i was able to say that, "if you
use this particular version of this particular distro, i absolutely
***guarantee*** that all the sample programs will work."  not a big
deal, i just wanted to have a known good starting point.

p.s.  in the two days that i've been thinking about this and posting
about it elsewhere, i already have others willing to contribute to
