I had missed this email.

I have never used gparted but you can assign a uuid with mkswap in the
same way that you can do so with tune2fs for extX filesystems.

I haven't made a dual-boot install for a while but, if you want to
ensure mkswap isn't run for the second install, you have to untick the
"format" tickbox before finishing the partitioning.
