ubuntu for the visually impaired?

i suddenly have the opportunity to set up a system for someone who
is visually impaired and while the initial proposal was to run
windows, i suggested that since the only requirements are the standard
email, browsing and occasional doc exchange, ubuntu would be a
reasonable alternative.
i recall someone on this list mentioned they were visually impaired
and using ubuntu. i'm curious about how that's working out, if you
want to either post or email me offline. thanks.
