laptop keyboard and touch pad arent working

hi. my laptop keyboard and touchpad werent working. i found the solution. it
was to add i8042.reset in the kernel line of grub.cfg but the problem is
that the grub.cfg file get over written on kernel updates. is there any long
term solution?
