No Netowrk icon on panel

Hi all,
the network icon has just disappeared from the
panel on my laptop, can't find anything in the "Add to Panel" list
Is there anyway it can be replaced. Can't connect (to mobile wireless) 
without it.
Have tried rebooting a number of times with modem connected and without, 
same result.
Am running 10.04 updated from 9.10 via update manager.
