Over the Network Transfer Speed Optimization

Hi,

I have a router with a USB 2.0 Host to share media files (music and video)
over the network.

I tried to transfer files after connecting a USB 2.0 external HDD to the
router and mounting it with Samba protocol.

The rate I got was around 2-5 MB/sec, while connected to the computer
directly I got about 4-50 MB/sec...

Is it possible to pass some options to the mount command in fstab to speed
up the transfer rate?

My setup:

Ubuntu Lucid
1 TB Iomega Prestige External HDD
Router: A Simens Gigaset 604 IL based on the OpenRG OS I got from my local
ISP.
