i915 GPU hung error

Has everyone with the "i915 GPU hung" error bought new hardware?  I 
don't see anyone anymore complaining.  Personally, I find it exceedingly 
annoying to be kicked off with a black screen several times a day.  I 
have tried chasing links and bug reports but it seems that no one group 
will claim ownership of the bug and this buck passing has been going on 
since at least last year.  I can't afford a new computer as a 
workaround, but, I would be willing to buy a cheap  sound card if it 
circumvents the problem.  Is that what everyone else has done?  Bought a 
new sound card?  I am running on a Dell Dimension 2400.  I would 
appreciate hearing about any other workarounds.  I have made both 
wallpaper and screensaver a blank screen, which helps somewhat.
