Late to the thread, but if you are still taking suggestions, I would 
point you to a nautilus extension called nautilus-image-converter which 
works nicely for this task. After installing, just right-click on an 
image file in Nautilus to resize it or rotate its orientation. It can 
also process multiple images at a time.
